In the several years after a football club was formed at Stony Creek in June, 1894, social games were played between Dumbalk, Meeniyan, Tarwin Lower, Buffalo, Fish Creek and Stony Creek.

 

1905: First real association between Tarwin Lower, Meeniyan, Mt Eccles and Leongatha.

1908: Dumbalk Football Club formed.

1909: Meeniyan & District Association formed.

1911: Dumbalk premiers in Meeniyan & District Association.

1915: Association was discontinued due to World War 1.

1919: Social football was again being played.

1920: Meeniyan & District Association reforms after World War 1.

1924: Dumbalk & District Association formed.

1926: Dumbalk & District Association collapsed.

1928: Dumbalk & District Association reformed with teams representing Dumbalk, Tarwin Lower, Leongatha Imperials, Ramblers, Mardan, Dollar, Meeniyan and Stony Creek.

1930: Dumbalk & District now has 8 teams: Foster, Stony Creek, Dumbalk, Ruby, Ramblers, Mardan, Meeniyan and Lower Tarwin.

1934: Dumbalk & District Association changes its name to South Gippsland Football League. The League affiliated with the Central Gippsland section of the Victorian Country Football League.

1938: No player except the coach is to receive payment. Coach at Meeniyan was J.T. Rayer from Brunswick.

1944: Local league formed with Toora, Foster, Fish Creek and Dollar.

1945: Six club competition formed with sides representing Dumbalk-Dollar, Stony Creek, Fish Creek, Foster, Toora and Welshpool.

1946: Dumbalk seconds team started: War time league wound up and South Gippsland League reformed.

1949: Dumbalk Seniors win Grand Final against Stony Creek 10 – 12 to 8 – 13.

1950 – 54: Dumbalk Seconds win 5 successive Grand Finals.

1952: South Gippsland League folded over a dispute between Fish Creek and Meeniyan in a final.

1953 – 54: Dumbalk Football Club played in Wonthaggi & District Association.

1955 – 57: Dumbalk football Club played in the Mid Gippsland Association wearing the colours of the current Leongatha side gold and green.

1958 – 63: Dumbalk again played in the South Gippsland Football League changing to jumpers described as a ‘calf shit’ colour with dark green sleeves. They then changed to Richmond colours of yellow and black.

1964: Dumbalk amalgamated with Meeniyan to become Meeniyan – Dumbalk United. The Seniors wore Richmond coloured jumpers while the seconds wore jumpers of black and red vertical stripes.

1969: M.D.U. entered the Alberton Football League and changed jumper colours to that of Melbourne as Foster played in the colours that M.D.U. were wearing in the South Gippsland League.

2021 to now: Meeniyan Dumbalk United enter the Mid Gippsland Football Netball League with fellow Alberton League clubs, Fish Creek, Foster, Stony Creek, Tarwin and Toora.
